About the Confocal Microscope Facility
The Tufts Confocal Microscope Facility is located within the Department of Anatomy and Cellular Biology
(M&V 504) at 136 Harrison Avenue, Boston MA 02111. It is in its fifth year of operation under the direction of Professor David Albertini. Services
are provided for receiving living or fixed samples labeled with 1-3
distinct fluorochromes with the most popular application being 3D reconstructions
from serial optical sections, 2 or 3 overlay analysis for analyzing spatial proximity, and improved
spatial resolution with thick specimens. The fee-for-service facility
provides training, various image processing/analysis opportunities, and hard copy output
for publication or presentation purposes.
In addition to INTERVISION software upgrades for 2-D and 3-D
analysis of cells and tissues, the facility computers (SGI and PC)
are networked and provide state-of-the-art hard copy output services
through data links to a color printer and Focus Graphics film recorder.
We welcome inquiries from all Tufts/NEMC investigators as well as those outside this community
regarding use of the facility.
